Splash and Chill at the Historic Making Waves Fat Swim! - Albany, CA
Sunday, August 30, 2026
12:00pm PT
Duration: 2 hours
Location: Albany Aquatic Center, 1311 Portland Avenue, Albany, CA 94706
The historic Making Waves Fat Swim has created a welcoming space for fat swimmers in Northern California since 1980. NAAFA is thrilled to partner with Making Waves for a fun almost-the-end of Fat Liberation Month event.
12-1pm is the weekly Making Waves Swim for fat community and friends inside the Aquatic Center.
Following the swim, from 1-2pm, come hang out with Team NAAFA and friends on the Aquatic Center lawn. Bring your own chairs and blankets or anything you would bring along for a park hangout.
At 1:30pm, our friends from Big Moves Bay Area will lead a quick line dance lesson, including both standing and seated choreography, and anyone who wants even more dancing can do that to the fun playlist our friend Deb Burgard created for the day!
One lucky attendee will also take home a very special door prize!
Light refreshments will be available.
RSVP recommended but not required.
$10 suggested donation, but this event is free if you need it to be! All funds raised support NAAFA’s work to change perceptions of fat and to end size discrimination!
Accessibility information can be found at makingwavesswim.com/general-info/, but please feel free to contact us if you have any specific needs or questions!
Throughout the year, NAAFA offers virtual and in-person events for fat people and fat-positive friends of all sizes. Our virtual events are offered free of charge thanks to the generosity of our community of NAAFA donors. To support this and other NAAFA programming, visit naafa.org/give.
