Below are research opportunities shared with the NAAFA community
NAAFA is not conducting these studies. This is our effort to support research about fat community, weight stigma, and activism. These opportunities have been vetted, but we ask that you proceed with caution, prioritizing your safety and wellbeing.
Format: Online Survey
Deadline: March 24, 2025
Researcher & Affiliation: Dr. Angela Meadows, University of Essex
Link: Exercise environment and higher weight individuals' attitudes toward physical activity
Description: We are interested in how higher-weight people's exercise environment shapes their exercise experiences. In this online study we will ask you about your exercise environment, your motivations for exercise, and how you feel when you exercise. You will also be asked to provide a little information about yourself. The study will take approximately 10-15 minutes.
Participant Criteria: 1. Age 18+; 2. Identify as fat, higher-weight, plus-size etc; 3. Currently exercising at least once a week in a 'formal' environment, such as a gym, a fitness class, an organized walking group, etc.
Compensation: This is a student project under the supervision of Dr Meadows. With regrets, there is no compensation allowed under institutional rules.
Additional Information: This study is run by Dr. Angela Meadows, weight stigma researcher and fat activist. However it is not only targeted to participants in this community. The O-words are used twice - once in the study information at the beginning, and once in a pre-screen question to make sure that only people in fat bodies are doing the study. After that, they don't appear again. Angela apologizes and appreciates your understanding.
