Anti-Racism Resources - March 2025
Each month, we feature educational resources in the NAAFA Newsletter to support our community in working to dismantle systemic racism. These resources are also shared on our social media, blog, and website. Resources vary from month to month, and may include historical information, tools for personal reflection, or information about how to get involved and make change. Many of the resources we suggest will be introductory resources, and this information is never intended to be full coverage on the complex and nuanced topics that are chosen each month. We encourage you to continue learning, and we especially hope you will seek out and support scholars, artists, creators, and activists who represent the communities most impacted by the topic of the month.
This month we invite you to join us in exploring resources about Women & Gender Minorities.
Everyday Feminism Magazine, Racial Justice tag - With articles like 8 Reasons You Want to Touch Black Women’s Hair – And Why They Mean You Shouldn’t and 4 Lessons Feminism Has Taught Me About My Relationship to Food and Fitness, Everyday Feminism is a treasure trove. Bonus: If you’ve got a little money to spend, check out their School for Social Justice with webinars like Not That Kind of Feminist: Moving Beyond White Feminism.
Women’s History Month: Trans Black Women to Follow and Support - TransLash was founded by Imara Jones, a Black trans woman, who’s been active in national advocacy around equality legislation. She “tells trans stories to save trans lives.” This article highlights the accomplishments and power of several Black trans women and closes with resources on how you can further support Black trans women.
The Erasure of Black Girls’ Childhood - Something never taught in school is how Black girls are not treated like children. This study is one of many that shows the erasure of Black girls’ childhood, and how they’re treated more like adults and are hypersexualized. For Women’s History Month it is imperative that we learn this history and do better to protect them.
The Anti-Trans Panic Is Rooted in White Supremacist Ideology - This is a very interesting article that looks at anti-gender/trans and anti-abortion panic in the U.S. today as coming from the fears of white supremacists that they are losing the "race" race. It reviews times when laws were passed to ensure the continuation of white dominance. What can be done? "Only through a coalitional politics rooted in solidarity across difference will we find liberation from transphobia, misogyny, and racism."
Erin in the Morning - The mainstream media has been notoriously terrible at covering trans people and their issues. Erin Reed is an excellent journalist carving out her own lane in the media through a thriving Substack. With the trans community under attack, Erin’s reporting is essential. She covers breaking news of importance to the community with integrity and a commitment to accuracy, but free from dehumanizing “alternate” views.
