Anti-Racism Resources - 2SLGBTQIA+ Pride Month

[Image description: On a background of diagonal multi-colored stripes, signifying queer pride flags, is an illustration of three raised fists signifying people of color. Above the main image is the text “Anti-Racism Resources June 2025” and below is the text “2SLGBTQIA+ Pride Month”]

Each month, we feature educational resources in the NAAFA Newsletter to support our community in working to dismantle systemic racism. These resources are also shared on our social media, blog, and website. Resources vary from month to month, and may include historical information, tools for personal reflection, or information about how to get involved and make change. Many of the resources we suggest will be introductory resources, and this information is never intended to be full coverage on the complex and nuanced topics that are chosen each month. We encourage you to continue learning, and we especially hope you will seek out and support scholars, artists, creators, and activists who represent the communities most impacted by the topic of the month.

In this special edition of Anti-Racism Resources, we invite you to join us in exploring resources about 2SLGBTQIA+ Pride Month.

  • Listen and Learn: a podcast centering the Black, Fat, Femme experience - According to the producers, "The B.F.F. Podcast” gives voice to two of the leading queer, fat and Black changemakers while calling in the world to examine and understand what it means to love oneself unapologetically - in a world where loving oneself often feels impossible.” AND they interviewed NAAFA’s Executive Director, Tigress Osborn, in a recent episode!

  • Your Two-Spirit Aunties Podcast - This is a great podcast with hosts Shilo and Brianna discussing all things Two-Spirit, including how to help change and heal the Native American community.

  • How Black queer culture shaped history [Video] - This TED talk on the history of Black queer culture starts with a song, and makes the case that "learning Black queer history is crucial to understanding our shared history.” Watch and learn about the “courageous and confident community that made Stonewall, Pride, and eventually marriage equality possible.”

  • Support These Queer BIPOC Organizations Making a Difference - When it comes to being anti-racist, we promote putting our money where our commitment is. If you are committed to being anti-racist but don't know the best way to do so, there are organizations that DO know and they can use our support.

  • The History of Two-Spirit Folks - This article discusses Two-Spirit people with additional links to resources to learn more.

In addition to the above resources focusing on the intersection of race and queer identity, we are also providing the following resources specific to 2SLGBTQIA+ identities.

  • Snapshot: LGBTQ Equality by State - As attacks on LGBTQIA+ people continue to come from the federal level, its more important than ever to know what’s happening on a state-by-state level. This resource can help you find out how queer and trans friendly each state in the union is to help you plan travel or relocation.

  • Embracing being both fat and queer - is liberation - This article frames the intersection of fat lib and LGBTQIA+ lib as “queering the goal of thinness” and we just love that. It is also full of links to other fat-tastic articles and resources.

  • Taking up space is a radical act of liberation for fat people, who face systemic discrimination wherever they go, including queer spaces - Asking the question, “Are fat people welcome in the queer world?” This article has a realistic, yet hopeful, take on the place of fat, disabled, queer folks in queer community and in the world.

  • Mapping Attacks on LGBTQ Rights in U.S. State Legislatures in 2025 - One way to be an ally to LGBTQIA+ friends and family is to make your voices heard in standing for or against legislation in your state. The ACLU has published a list of all anti-LGBTQIA+ legislation from 2025. You can go to the map and click on your state to see what bills have been submitted, the issue and the status of the bill. Stay informed and let your voice be heard!

  • “The Opposite of Doom Is Curiosity”: Pattie Gonia Gives Advice for the Climate Fight Under Trump - First of all, we should only ever learn about things from Drag Queens. History, culture, climate resilience— all of it. But second, the idea of not putting your resources (which includes time and energy) toward the negativity is so powerful. And of course, resourced people and less marginalized people also need to be funding the movement and those who are less marginalized and all of that, but the Gen-Z in me really resonates with this idea of dancing while the world burns. For young people especially, we have spent our entire lives fighting and in massive political chaos. We should try to stop it, and also sometimes we can dance with our friends and live in our joy. We don’t have to be at battle all the time.
