We love our NAAFA volunteers!

As we work hard to expand our resources so we can compensate more people for their time and energy, we continue to appreciate the people who are able to volunteer and help us keep our advocacy and programming strong. Four of our volunteers shared some thoughts about what it means to them to give their time to #NAAFA and #FatActivism.

NAAFA Volunteer Spotlights

Shayna (she/her/hers) Certified Professional Coach & Consultant - 3 years volunteering with NAAFA

“Volunteering for NAAFA, I have learned a lot about fat liberation, especially from Executive Director Tigress Osborn and Board Chair Amanda Cooper. I am inspired by the organization's vision, mission, and advocacy work, and by the Board members and other leaders that I have had the pleasure of working with.”

Bill (he/him/his) Professional Engineer - 20+ years volunteering with NAAFA

“I like helping NAAFA as it gives me the chance to express myself and be part of the movement. Writing a monthly column with my wife Terri is fun and doesn't trigger social anxiety.”

Jacqueline (they/them/theirs) Brand Designer - 9 months volunteering with NAAFA

“I was introduced to the fat liberation movement while healing my own relationship with my body, but as I learned more about anti-fat bias I saw that it’s a systemic problem that expands way beyond body image. Through volunteering with NAAFA, I found a way to make an impact outside of myself and work toward a better future for fat folx.”

Kristen (she/her/hers) PhD Student - NAAFA’s volunteer coordinator

“I love the opportunity that volunteering with NAAFA provides to get to know other folx in the fat liberation movement. Meeting other people working towards a liberated fat future provides me with hope.”
