Attention fat folks and friends in Boston, Massachusetts!
The NAAFA Community Connect local meetings keep on coming! Next up... Boston! Whether you’re brand new to fat liberation or a seasoned advocate who wants to connect with local community, join us Thursday evening, November 20th at 7pm at the George Sherman Student Union, Boston University. Our executive director, Tigress Osborn, will give a short presentation on NAAFA’s historical and current role in the fat rights movement, including updates on the Campaign for Size Freedom. Then we’ll do a Q&A with author Anastasia Kidd of @fatchurch about intersections of fat liberation and interfaith spirituality. Then stay to mix and mingle with old friends and new!
Don’t forget-- Massachusetts has a pending bill to ban height and weight discrimination! We expect the hearing to be scheduled late fall/early winter. Stay tuned for info and be sure to sign the Campaign for #SizeFreedom petition at naafa.org/sizefreedom!
This is a free event for fat and fat-positive folks of all ages. See you there!
Please come prepared to mask! (KN94 masks will be provided.)
Please reach out to us at naafa.org/contact if you need any accessibility accommodations no later than Tuesday 11/18!
GUEST BIOS:
The Rev. Dr. Anastasia Kidd (she/her) is the author of Fat Church: Claiming a Gospel of Fat Liberation.
She is a pastor, educator, storyteller, and fat activist who studies how Christian colonialism helped establish structural anti-fatness in U.S. society and beyond. A theological educator at the Boston University School of Theology, Anastasia believes that identifying with unrepentant fatness can reconnect humanity with the abundance of nature, the practice of sustainable communal relationships, and the cultivation of beautiful and pleasurable ethics.
