Fat Elders Gathering with Deb Burgard & Lisa Tealer
Tuesday, August 18, 2026
5:30pm PT / 6:30pm MT / 7:30pm CT / 8:30pm ET
Duration: 60 minutes
This event is an opportunity to bring together fat elders to share experiences, resources, memories, and challenges.
This group is for larger-bodied people who have identified as elders for a long time, as well as for people who are crossing into the age ranges that the world recognizes as beginning elderhood (for example, those beginning to receive senior discounts or beginning to consider Social Security and MediCare options for themselves). If you are identifying as or being identified as a senior, and you are a fat person, this is the group for you.
Please note: although this is currently offered as a one-time meeting, this event could grow into an ongoing gathering based on the wants and needs of the community.
Be sure to attend live because this event will not be recorded. ASL interpreting for this event will be provided upon request with 72 hours notice.
Affinity spaces are intended to be only for people of shared identity. If you are younger person, or a thin person hoping to learn more and use your privilege to advance fat acceptance, please do not register for this event. NAAFA offers many other free virtual events throughout the year for people of all sizes and identities.
The National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance was founded in 1969 to work towards a more equitable and welcoming world for fat people. We use the word fat intentionally and unapologetically, to destigmatize what has been used as an insult. “Fat” should simply be an adjective to describe one of many types of body diversity.
