Each month, we will feature educational resources on the NAAFA Community Voices Blog to support our community in taking action to combat racism. Some resources will be historic information about systemic racism. Others will be resources on doing the internal work of understanding ourselves and how we play a part in that system.

June is LGBTQ Pride Month. In this edition of NAAFA’s anti-racism resources, we focus on ways to support our Queer and BIPOC family, friends, and neighbors.

Trans and gender non-conforming people--especially kids--are under legislative attack throughout the country. There have been laws proposed in 45 states to deny everything from life saving health care to drag queen story hours. If you want to learn more or be prepared to take action, visit the National Center for Transgender Equality action center.

Another important way to be anti-racists is with your money. The phrase “putting money where your mouth is” means so much more when you use it to create a more equitable future for everyone. Since we are in Pride Month, below are some small, independent ways to support BIPOC and queer owned business and fund-raising organizations.

Here is a good list by state to start your book reading adventures. Live in a state not mentioned here but know of a good bookstore? You can contact the website and let them know.

Have jewelry on the mind this Pride? Here is a list of BIPOC queer small jewelry makers to support. (Content warning, there are a lot of ads on this webpage.)

Want to support Black Trans organizations doing good work? Here is a small list of where you can start.

If you don’t have money to spend, you can give of your time this Pride. Go online and find a local Pride celebration and show your support. It is getting rough out there for many in the queer community and even more so for BIPOC. Using your privilege to lift the most marginalized of us can go a long way this Pride.
