Anti-Racism Resources: November 2023 — Anti-Semitism and Islamophobia
Compiled by the NAAFA Communications Committee
Each month, we will feature educational resources on the NAAFA Community Voices Blog to support our community in taking action to combat racism. Some resources will be historic information about systemic racism. Others will be resources on doing the internal work of understanding ourselves and how we play a part in that system.
Recent events in Israel and Gaza have generated a spike in dangerous, dehumanizing speech targeting Muslim and Jewish people online, and horrific attacks in real life. As part of our ongoing effort to educate ourselves and our communities about forms of racism and ways to dismantle them, we are sharing information about the roots, impact, and efforts to combat anti-Semitism and Islamophobia.
Designed for educators, we found the resources at Facing History & Ourselves useful for our own learning and to help us talk with the young people in our lives. We especially recommend their Anti-Semitism and its Impacts explainer.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations, or CAIR offers this primer on Islamophobia and Anti-Muslim sentiment.
This comprehensive guide from the Institute on Social Policy and Understanding includes a definition of Islamophobia, as well as guidance and case studies on how to counter Islamophobic behavior and legislation in your community.
