NAAFA, the national organization, has a policy which requires national membership for local chapter members. Local chapters were primarily instituted to enable better local contact for national members. WSC-NAAFA supports this national policy, especially in light of the advantages NAAFA provides. Without National, local chapter voices would be small and short-ranging.

If you feel you can't afford the dues for "two organizations" or if you are not familiar with the activities of National, we do offer chapter newsletter subscriptions. While not entitling subscribers to the full benefits of membership, this enables interested people to stay in touch with the organization.

Advantages of national membership include subscription to the national newsletter, notices of special events, discounts at national and regional events, eligibility to vote nationally, eligibility for national services, such as NAAFA-Date, the Pen-Pal club, the book service and the Special Interest Groups (Feminist Caucus, Super-Size SIG, Fat Admirer's SIG, Singles SIG, etc.) Much of our information about national media events comes from National, along with news about national and regional conventions, workshops, rallies, events. Weight-related job-discrimination suits and new medical information is publicized regularly in the NAAFA Newsletter. For more information, contact either us or NAAFA.

Chapter membership entitles you to discounts at chapter functions, chapter newsletter subscription, eligibility to run for chapter offices and eligibility to vote on offices and issues.

Guests, visitors and subscribers are welcome at chapter meetings and functions, but we ask that they be fair. If they regularly attend functions, they should consider becoming regular members.
